Ever since I was a child, it was difficult for me to socialize with people around my age. With all the constant moving from city to city, all my friendships were shallow and not really worth pursuing, since I knew that sooner or later I would have to leave them. This feeling of loneliness had gotten so suffocating that I simply gave up on having friends and accepted that I would stay alone for a long time.
Then I found the internet. Some friends I made through an online server told me about this game they were playing, called “Sky: children of the light”. Everyone from the group lived far away, but some made plans to meet up there, play and have fun together. The design and gameplay were appealing to me, and I decided to download it. I’m so glad I chose to play this game.
I still remember my first day in Sky, in Isle of Dawn, trying to understand how the game works. Out of nowhere, my friends appeared! They were there, all of them, with candles in hand to unlock the friendship tree, and to help me through the journey ahead. I’d been friends with them for quite a while at that point, but in that moment when I could finally hug them and hold their hands, I felt the warm feeling of being hugged by someone you hold dear to your heart. The love they had for me and I had for them, it was something so new to me, overwhelming.
They may not know it yet, but it brought tears to my eyes, and I will never forget this feeling. Now that I have been playing for almost 2 years, I can say for certain that this game has helped me meet so many amazing people from all around the world and opened the door for so many fun and loving friendships. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels the same way. Every single day players are meeting each other and making new connections, helping each other, being there to have fun and to make good memories.
This is something I’ve never seen another game accomplish. Thank you TGC, for all the hard work and dedication that you put in this game, helping people all around the world to connect with each other, to feel loved and seen. You help people like me feel less alone, and for that I am truly thankful.
